YEMI Becomes part of ADC

Young Engineering Becomes Member in Innovative Water Desalination Project
Exceptionally Designed Pulsation Dampeners Featured in Next Generation System that Promises Cost Efficient Desalination Process

May 2005 – Today, Young Engineering, known for highly engineered, industrial-quality surge and pulsation control products, announced that the Company has become a member of the Affordable Desalination Collaboration (ADC) which also today, will dedicate and start up its ultra-efficient seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) system. Young Engineering suction and discharge dampeners will be part of this start up and will be crucial to ensuring that pulsations created and emitted by the high-pressure pump are controlled, protecting the entire system.

“We feel the ADC is doing something very important and we are proud to be a part of the project,” said Winston Young, president of Young Engineering. “The SWRO system ADC has created is a perfect application for our suction and discharge dampeners, an ideal marriage between a highly engineered system and our highly engineered components.”

Made of stainless steel for maximum integrity there are two Young Engineering dampeners in the ADC system. The suction dampener used in this project is the Young Engineering SS316 model 2.5FT-27S. Installed close to the pump inlet, the suction dampener protects and extends the life of a pump and the system. It does this by reducing the potential for cavitation which can cause pitting or other premature pump wear. It also reduces wear on the manifold and suction valves. The second discharge dampener (model1.0FT-1200S) installed at the discharge side of the pump also protects the system by attenuating and stopping pump generated pressure pulsations which help decrease mechanical vibration and noise.

Young Engineering manufactures a full line of pulsation dampeners – suction, discharge and maintenance free – designed to reduce cavitation, vibrations and noise within a pumping system. The Company’s pulsation dampeners can be found protecting systems worldwide in RO water purification systems, Oil & Gas, petro-chemical, high pressure washing and food processing. Standard products are available in appendage and flow-through designs and can be either top or bottom repairable. Designs are available in stainless steel and carbon steel as standard products.

Young Engineering and Manufacturing, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of highly engineered, industrial-quality surge and pulsation control products. Young Engineering products utilize state-of-the-art designs and are constructed to stringent quality control systems. Its manufacturing facilities are certified by ASME to manufacture pressure vessels and are approved by the U.S. Navy, Factory Mutual (FM) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL). Young Engineering’s team of engineers have over 100 years of experience in the field of hydraulic transients and mechanical design and offer custom design solutions as well as standard catalog products.
