AVI FAQ



Can we use the AVI as a control device?
No, the AVI is not a control device and it shall not be used as a control device. The AVI provides INDICATION of liquid or gas volume in a tank. It provides information to facilitate maintenance.



Can we use the AVI for sewage applications?
The AVI can be calibrated for this application. This must be done in the Field. (See Calibration Manual)



Can we use the AVI for multiple tanks?
Yes, the AVI can be used for multiple tanks; however, each tank should be calibrated.



Will the AVI work for any bladder tank?
Yes, the AVI will function with almost every bladder tank. Calibration is required for consistency.



Can the Impact Device be used in all size of tanks?
The Impact Device can be used for a broad range of tanks. However, some larger tanks will require an adjustment to the Impact Device.



Can I determine the precharge of a bladder tank without taking it off line?
Yes, a bladder tank under pressure can be measured for liquid volume.



Can I alter the precharge of a bladder tank without taking it off line?
Yes, by knowing the volume and the operating pressure, the precharge can be determined.



Can the AVI be used for non-liquid tanks (compressed gas tanks)?
Yes, the AVI can be used to measure compressed gas pressure.



Can the AVI be used in a Surge Tank (air over liquid tank)?
Yes, the AVI is versatile and can be used in bladderless type tank.



Is the AVI portable?
Yes, the AVI consists of a portable PC that is battery operated, the Sound Card, and the Impact Device.



Does the support structure affect the AVI reading?
Yes, the support structures and local discontinuities such as nozzles will exert local influence. The Pickup Device should be mounted away from support structures and nozzles. The Impact point should also be away from support structures and nozzles.



Can the AVI indicate a defective bladder?
The AVI can indicate over a period a change in volume which may mean a loss of precharge.



Can the AVI be affected by temperature?
The AVI is minimally affected by temperature in the normal operating range (50 to 90 degrees) temperatures outside of this range will require recalibration.
