Young Engineering Produces Video
Explaining why Surge Suppression is Needed
May, 2010
Young Engineering and Manufacturing, manufacturer of ASME, FM, and UL Approved surge and pulsation control products, has produced a video illustrating the importance of providing surge vessels onto pipeline systems.
“Many pipelines still don't have surge vessels installed on them,” Cites Jeffrey McConnell, Young Engineering’s Director of Marketing and Sales. “It is one of our primary goals to educate those who need to understand surge suppression; as well as to educate why Young Engineering's bladder surge tanks are superior to any other option.”
The computer animated video Young Engineering produced illustrates pressure surge conditions, and how a Young Engineering Bladder Surge Tank absorbs the pressure, then places the fluid back in the pipeline once the pressure spike has subsided.
"Generally, a pump shutdown or valve closure will cause a pressure spike within the pipeline; the fluid inside the pipeline is travelling with velocity and comes in contact with a closed valve, or non-functioning pump. This is known as the Waterhammer affect. A bladder surge tank consists of an ASME coded tank and a gas-filled bladder inside; when the pressure within the pipeline reaches certain levels, the fluid flows into the tank, compressing the gas-filled bladder. Once the pressure returns to operating pressure, the bladder expands, causing the fluid to re-enter the pipeline system. Young Engineering has produced a DVD explaining how their surge tanks absorb transient surges and reintroduce the fluid into the pipeline once the surge has subsided; to order a free copy, click here to order a copy; either in standard definition or BluRay.
